Emelie was born October 13, 1916 in Kingston, Jamaica to Elizabeth McCleary. As a child she attended Catholic school in Kingston, Jamaica. After graduation Emelie started working as a seamstress.
In 1947 Emelie, determined to forge a better life for herself and daughter Mayonette (Pansy), migrated to New York. She found employment in the garment district as a seamstress. She worked in the garment district as a master seamstress until she retired in 1981 at the age of 65. Emelie moved to Lehigh Acres, Florida in 1987 where she enjoyed gardening, visiting the senior center and volunteering at the food bank.
Emelie is survived by her daughter, Mayonette (Pansy) Williams; grandchildren: Cheryl Allamby, David Williams; great-granddaughters: Shannon Brown and Marissa Brooks; great great grandson, George (Q) Brown IV as well as a host of friends and loved ones.
Funeral services will be held at Hodges Funeral Home at Lee Memorial Park 12777 State Road 82 in Fort Myers on Wednesday October 24, 2018. Viewing from 2:00 to 4:00 and service at 4:00 pm.
