

Fred Norman Teumac, 84, of Fort Myers passed away Thursday, January 28, 2016 in Fort Myers. He was born February 2, 1931 in Little Ferry, NJ to George and Norma Tlumac. He is survived by his wife, Karen Teumac of Fort Myers; a son, Frederick Teumac of South Bend, IN; daughters: Joanne (Paul) Hunter of Tampa, FL and Diane Hopkins of Denver, CO; and a stepson, William (Jen) Kratochvil of Fort Myers. Also surviving him are two sisters: Patricia Potter of Dunedin, FL and Evelyn (Al) Brust and seven grandchildren: Jordan (Lyndsay) Garcia of Palm Bay, FL, Normandy Garcia of Fort Myers, Alexander Kratochvil and Katherine Kratochvil of Fort Myers and Karlie Teumac, Gracie Teumac and Trevor Teumac of South Bend, IN.
Fred graduated in 1952 with a B.S. in Agriculture from Rutgers University in New Jersey. He graduated in 1958 with a M.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Florida. From 1952 to 1954 he served in the Korean War as Captain of Company D of the Fifth Calvary Regiment.
In 1961, the University of Florida awarded Fred a Ph. D. in Chemistry with a minor in Chemical Engineering. He was a Senior Research Chemist for Dow Chemical Company in Lake Jackson, TX; then Research Director for the Industrial and Plastics Division at Uniroyal in Mishawaka, IN. At Reeves Brothers in Charlotte, NC he was the Vice President of Research and Development. The Research Center was moved in 1983 to Spartanburg, SC where he was employed until 1989 when he took a position as Vice President of Research and Development for Zapata Industries in Hazelton, PA. He retired to Florida in 2002.
Fred's hobbies were gardening and family along with a bit of traveling. He served the community as a member of Kiwanis, as Guardian Ad Litem for children who were wards of the court. He established and financed a scouting group for handicapped children after the death of this Stepdaughter, Janet, in 1981.
He will be missed by all who loved him.
Visitation will be held at Hodges Funeral Home at Lee Memorial Park 12777 State Road 82 Fort Myers on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 from 1 pm until the time of the funeral service at 2 pm. Interment will be in Lee Memorial Park Cemetery. Info (239) 334-4880
