

George was born in New York, NY on February 22, 1944 to Eileen Collins Buch and Robert Buch. He graduated from Fairfield Prep High School (CT) and served in the US Army during the Vietnam War as a member of the Phu Lam Signal Battalion near Saigon. After Vietnam, George earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut and later received a certificate in Data Processing from CPI. He worked in IT at Travelers Insurance in Hartford for over 30 years.
Together with Carol, his wife and lifelong partner of 60 years, George devoted himself to raising three sons in Willimantic, CT. As a long-time resident of Willimantic, George served his community in leadership roles with numerous organizations including: Willimantic Little League Baseball; Willimantic Midget Football; American Legion Post 19 Baseball; Windham Textile and History Museum; Garden Club of Windham; Willimantic Victorian Neighborhood Association; and the Willimantic Downtown Development Committee.
George’s great passions in life were spending time with his family and friends (especially his grandkids!), undertaking new travels and adventures with his wife Carol, camping, gardening, spending time in the kitchen, and supporting his beloved New York Yankees with a vocal Bronx cheer.
George is survived by his wife, Carol Buch, of Fort Myers, FL and sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren: Aron and Kate Buch of Port Chester, NY; Ethan, Kristin, Silvia, and Maria Buch of Washington, DC; and Jesse, Nancy, Aiden, and Emily Buch of Kennebunk, ME. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Julia and Richard Balas of Norwalk, CT, sister-in-law Rose Buch of Darien, CT, brother-in-law Robert Murray of St. Petersburg, FL, brother-in-law Leonard Schiro of North Stonington, CT, in addition to many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Eileen and Robert, as well as brothers Robert Buch Jr and Thomas Buch.
