Gerard R. Cunningham Jr. (Jerry) of Fort Myers, FL died at home on Sunday, February 26th. Jerry was born Sept 23, 1941 in Queens, NY to the late Gerard R. Sr. and Anne Cunningham. He earned a BS degree in History at Fordham University, NY and an MA degree in History Education at Columbia University, NY. Jerry taught High School History for the New York City School District. After moving to Florida, he continued to teach High School History with the Lee County School System. At the end of his career he worked with homebound students with Lee County Schools. He and his wife, Juanita, traveled extensively throughout Europe and Asia.
Mr. Cunningham is survived by his beloved wife, Juanita Cunningham; children, Lisa E. Packer, Carrie Pusich and Tim Cunningham; grandchildren, Hailey Pusich, Jeffery Pusich, Matthew Cunningham, Carl Packer, James Packer and Marianne Packer; Sisters, Dineen Cunningham and Eileen Browning; nephews, Eric Cunningham and Corey Browning.
To paraphrase Robert Frost, He “took the road less traveled by”, and that made all the difference. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Monday, April 3rd, 2017 at Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord, 8121 Cypress Lake Dr., Fort Myers. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to the American Heart Association in memory of Jerry.
