March 15, 1949 – April 12, 2018
Gerletha Reid was born March 15th, 1949 in the beautiful island country of Montego Bay, Jamaica. As the youngest out of 9 children, she learned at a young age the importance of family, sacrifice and hard work. Immediately after graduating high school, Ms. Reid pursued a career within the hospitality industry where she worked with hotels and cruise lines. She was able to travel to different parts of the United States, Canada and other islands of the Caribbean. During her early to mid-twenties, she owned her first home in Jamaica and had two beautiful children Stacey and Carl. Realizing her mounting responsibilities, Ms. Reid decided to establish a life in the United States in order to provide a better life for her two young children in Jamaica. She moved to Connecticut where she became a private tutor and teacher for elementary school age children and caretaker. Several years later, she moved down south to the state of Florida where she resided and spent the remainder of her years. In 1986, she gave birth to her youngest daughter Natasha and pursued a career in health as a certified nursing assistant. Along the years she was able to accomplish many endeavors and overcome tremendous obstacles. She was extremely skilled in the area of cooking and interior decorating. She was able to pursue her art in cooking and given the opportunity to own her own restaurant. Unfortunately, because of extenuating circumstances she was forced to close it down. However, that did not stop her from pursuing the food industry as a private preparer and caterer for Fort Lauderdale International Airport. Ms. Reid was a very ambitious, strong, kind-hearted and loving woman who would give the very last that she had so that someone else could be blessed. The epitome of hard-working and goal-oriented was she. She sacrificed her life to make sure that her children and her loved ones were well taken care of. Ms. Reid was also a woman of strong faith, prayer and love for the Lord. She always instilled in her children that God is good all the time and that He is the ultimate provider and lover of our souls. Even until the end of her life she displayed grace, beauty, strength, love, and Abraham-like faith in the Lord. She left an amazing legacy behind for her children and grand-children to follow. Ms. Girley, We Love You. You are now and forever will be in our hearts and in the fullness of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. Well Done, good and faithful servant. From this day forward, you shall be in paradise! Leaving behind son Carl Anthony Green and daughters Stacey Ann-Marie Hemmings and Natasha Samantha Allen. Along with 7 grandchildren: Britney, Jordan, Sherry-Kay, Salema, Tyler, Sam, and Jahmaari. Survived by brother Byron Reid and sisters Joyce Ramsey and Dorothy Thompson. With a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
