Gisela Gonzalez Sloan

Gisela Gonzalez Sloan was born in Paraiso Dominican Republic on June 14, 1950 to Manuel Gonzalez and Maximina Gonzalez. She was the fourth of eleven children. Her father was a maestro and could play many instruments. Consequently, the government hired him to travel to many cities and teach the communities music.

She was an active member of Christian youth groups and sang in the church choir. Together with fellow members, she shared the Gospel in both cities and rural communities, bringing hope and encouragement to countless individuals. She also attended the Alianza Francesa, where she studied the French language.

The family immigrated to New York on April 8, 1970, Gisela continued her lifelong commitment to her faith and church community. She became the lead singer of her church choir and was an active member of the worldwide young women’s ministry, Hijas de María (“Daughters of Mary”).

The United States became her home and she enjoyed the culture and freedoms she found here. Gisela never forgot the country where she was born and raised. The Dominican Republic always held a special place in her heart. She faithfully supported the Fundación Niños y Niñas de Cristo orphanage in the Dominican Republic, providing clothing, pajamas, school supplies, and other necessities to the orphaned children. She believed deeply in the transformative power of education and was passionate about ensuring that these children had the opportunities and resources they needed to learn, grow, and build a brighter future.

She loved traveling the world with her family and creating treasured memories. She also loved dancing to merengue music, a reflection of her Dominican heritage, and found great joy in celebrating life, family, and her culture.

Above all, Gisela was a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished grandmother. She was known for her extraordinary generosity, unwavering compassion, and selfless heart. She embraced her extended family as her own, offering unconditional love, encouragement, and support throughout her life. Her home was always open to family and friends, serving as a place of comfort, hospitality, and belonging.

Through her words and example, Gisela taught those around her to put others before themselves, to care for those in need, and to remain steadfast in supporting the people they love. Her kindness, grace, and strength left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Gisela built a distinguished professional career, serving as Vice President of a bank before later becoming the Office Manager of a thriving medical practice. She approached every role with integrity, dedication, and an exceptional work ethic.

Gisela is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years, Dr. Alfred W. Sloan; her children, Gesenia “Genie” Sloan-Pena, Alfred “Chip” W. Sloan II, Alejandro “Ajay” Sloan, and Sasha “Annie” Sloan-Dizack; and her eight beloved grandchildren, who were among her greatest joys. Her legacy of faith, generosity, and unconditional love will continue to live on through all who knew and loved her.

Gisela González Sloan nació en Paraíso, República Dominicana, el 14 de Junio de 1950. Fue hija de Manuel González y Maximina González, y la cuarta de once hermanos. Su padre era maestro de orquesta y tocaba varios instrumentos musicales. Debido a su talento, el gobierno lo contrató para viajar a diversas ciudades y enseñar música a las comunidades.

Desde joven, Gisela fue una miembro activa de grupos juveniles Cristianos y cantó en el coro de la iglesia. Junto con otros miembros, compartió el Evangelio tanto en ciudades como en comunidades rurales, llevando esperanza y aliento a innumerables personas. También estudió francés en la Alianza Francesa.

La familia emigró a Nueva York el 8 de abril de 1970. Allí, Gisela continuó el compromiso que mantendría durante toda su vida con su fe y su comunidad eclesial. Se convirtió en la vocalista principal del coro de su iglesia y fue una miembro activa del ministerio internacional de mujeres jóvenes Hijas de María.

Estados Unidos se convirtió en su hogar, y disfrutó profundamente de la cultura y las libertades que encontró allí. Sin embargo, Gisela nunca olvidó el país donde nació y creció. La República Dominicana siempre ocupó un lugar especial en su corazón. Apoyó fielmente al orfanato Fundación Niños y Niñas de Cristo, proporcionando ropa, pijamas, útiles escolares y otros artículos de primera necesidad para los niños huérfanos. Creía profundamente en el poder transformador de la educación y le apasionaba brindarles las oportunidades y los recursos necesarios para aprender, crecer y construir un futuro mejor.

Le encantaba viajar por el mundo con su familia y crear recuerdos inolvidables. También disfrutaba bailar merengue, un reflejo de su herencia Dominicana, y encontraba una inmensa alegría en celebrar la vida, la familia y su cultura.

Por encima de todo, Gisela fue una esposa devota, una madre amorosa y una abuela profundamente querida. Era conocida por su extraordinaria generosidad, su compasión inquebrantable y su corazón altruista.

Acogía a su familia extendida como si fuera la suya, brindándoles amor, ánimo y apoyo incondicional durante toda su vida. Su hogar siempre estuvo abierto para familiares y amigos, convirtiéndose en un lugar de consuelo, hospitalidad y pertenencia.

Con sus palabras y, sobre todo, con su ejemplo, Gisela enseñó a quienes la rodeaban a poner las necesidades de los demás antes que las propias, a cuidar de los más necesitados y a permanecer firmes en el apoyo a sus seres queridos. Su bondad, su gracia y su fortaleza dejaron una huella imborrable en todos los que tuvieron el privilegio de conocerla.

Gisela desarrolló una distinguida carrera profesional. Se desempeñó como vicepresidenta de un banco antes de convertirse en administradora de una próspera clínica médica. En cada uno de sus cargos se distinguió por su integridad, dedicación y excepcional ética de trabajo.

A Gisela le sobreviven su amado esposo con el que compartió 52 años, el Dr. Alfred W. Sloan; sus hijos, Gesenia “Genie” Sloan-Pena, Alfred “Chip” W. Sloan II, Alejandro “Ajay” Sloan y Sasha “Annie” Sloan-Dizack; así como sus ocho queridos nietos, quienes fueron una de las mayores alegrías de su vida. Su legado de fe, generosidad y amor incondicional perdurará para siempre en el corazón de todos aquellos que tuvieron la bendición de conocerla y amarla.
