Greg was born October 31, 1950, in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, one of five children of Harold G. and Elaine T. Gresh. He raised his family there, and called Pennsylvania home until he and Millie retired to Florida.
He enlisted in the Army in 1968 and served with the 9th Infantry Division in Vietnam, carrying the radio as a corporal through the Mekong Delta with the Mobile Riverine Force. He was wounded in battle. A decorated combat veteran, he was awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star Medal, and the Combat Infantryman Badge, among other honors.
He spent the rest of his life standing up for the men he served with. He was Commander of DAV Chapter 94 in Lehigh Acres for six years, and a member of the VFW, the American Legion, and the Vietnam Brotherhood.
Greg worked with his hands and was proud of it. He built houses alongside his father at Harold G. Gresh, Inc., and spent his career as a heavy equipment operator for Windsor Service and Haines & Kibblehouse.
He was a member of First Assembly of God in Lehigh Acres and of Sonlife Broadcasting Network.
Greg never met a stranger. He greeted people warmly, always had a story, and kept his sense of humor through everything, and it’s what his family will miss most.
Retirement suited him. He liked a freshly cut lawn and the tractor that cut it, and no grandchild ever left without a ride. Time with his grandchildren was the best thing in his life, and he made sure they knew it.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred M. (Ray) Gresh; his five children, Heather, Karen, Julie, Beth, and Greg; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
No public service is scheduled at this time.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Greg's memory to DAV Chapter 94, Lehigh Acres, Florida.
