Harold “Jack” Sturman died peacefully on Friday, August 7, 2020. He was 91 years old. He was born on July 5, 1929 in Coventry, England. He resided in Fort Myers, Florida. A small service was held for Jack on Monday, August 11 at Hope Hospice in Fort Myers.
Jack was the youngest of 9 children born to Herbert and Alice Sturman. When he was a child, he was evacuated from Coventry during World War II. He was a member of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) in England. While serving in the military, he traveled to Egypt during the Suez Canal conflict.
He married Joan Brough in 1954 and together they moved their young family from Coventry, England to Queens, NY. Eventually, they built a house in Wayne, NJ and lived there for 30 years. They retired to Fort Myers in 2000 and have lived there for 20 years.
As a young man, Jack studied as a machine tool apprentice. He worked for over 50 years as a machine tool engineer and sales representative.
Jack is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joan, his daughter Lynda, his son Neil (Nancy), and his daughter Lisa (Greg). He has four grandchildren: Graham, Heather, Matt, and Katherine.
Jack was a great husband, father, grandfather, and friend. We could always count on him for a laugh and a smile. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family. Donations can be sent in memory of Jack to Hope Hospice.
