Hazeleen Baxley Ivey
(April 11, 1928 – January 28, 2021)
Hazeleen B. Ivey passed peacefully in her sleep at Lee Memorial Hospital early Thursday morning, January 28, 2021, after a brave battle with pneumonia. She was 92 years young.
Known as “Hazel” to those who loved her, she was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. She enjoyed school, her many friends, and loved dancing and sports. She met the love of her life, James Howard Ivey, at a USO dance where “Jimmy” was singing with the band. They married soon after high school, a love that lasted 72 years. Loving mother to Robin and Doug, Hazel and her family relocated to Rockaway Township, New Jersey in 1963. There she and Jim built a successful photography business as she so enjoyed working with people. Forever active, Hazel was a staple in the local bowling league; like her daughter, she loved to travel; and like her son, enjoyed the game of golf.
Hazel and Jim retired to Fort Myers in 1989 spending the next 25 years enjoying golf, time with their grandchildren, and the Florida sunshine at Cross Creek before moving to The Palms in 2014.
All who loved Hazel remember her as a real “spark”, always full of energy. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, James, in October 2019; and is survived by her daughter, her son, loving in-laws, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
