Alan attended Greenwood schools. His undergraduate degree was earned at the College of Charleston, where he was inducted into the Golden Key International Honor Society. A Masters Degree was completed at Cambridge University.
His most enjoyable work was in the field of human services, evidence of his generous spirit, kindness and loving heart. Animals were drawn to his tender care. His beautiful smile could light a room, often accompanied by a sitcom-worthy sense of humor that was a treat for all. A talented vocalist and pianist, Alan sang baritone in the auditioned College of Charleston Concert Choir. His affection for his church family at Tranquil United Methodist Church brought him home to participate in special music events with his beloved choir, whose love and support gave him much joy.
One of Alan's greatest pleasures was hiking with family and friends in the mountains. A second was baking pound cakes which were the envy of even the best bakers. He had a secret passed on to him from one of his neighborhood "grandmothers".
Alan is survived by his parents, sister, Liz Galizia (Nick), niece, Soleil Grace Galizia and aunt Diane Cauley Rainey (Jim).
A Celebration of Life service will be at noon Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Tranquil UMC, conducted by The Reverend Crystal Champion and The Reverend R. Douglas White. The family will receive friends at the social hall following the service.
