Tim Holt

To Jose’s family and friends:

My name is Tim Holt. I live in Whitehall Pa near the community gardens where “Shorty” spent so much time. I also am a community gardener..

The fact is I was introduced to Shorty several years ago. We became good friends. Over the past 4-5 years he really took care of my garden for me. He helped me and I helped him with some money, fresh apples, peaches, scrap metal and some personal clothing items that he welcomed. We bought a water pump together so he could provide water to other gardeners.

I cared for your father/Shorty greatly. He was simply a kind, generous, hardworking man who cared a lot about everyone but himself. He would laugh at my jokes and we would tell stories to each other. I loved the picnics he would throw. He was like the Mayor of our gardens and we all respected him and loved him. I considered him like a brother and as a white man he graciously accepted me and welcomed me with his friendship. He will be greatly missed. I take some comfort that I know he is now in heaven and at peace and most likely asking our Father, where are the gardens and Hot fishing spots are.

I was deeply shaken to learn of Shorty’s passing.
I was at the gardens this morning and very much felt his presence there. My fellow gardeners are grieving for him and you, his family.

I hope to pursue a permanent Landmark in the Community Garden in remembrance of Shorty. He most definitely touched my life and I shall miss him greatly.

God Bless Shorty. May he Rest In Peace. He will always have a place in my heart and in the hearts of His fellow gardeners from the Lehigh Valley.

My father told me before he passed , Son please try not to cry and be sad when I pass. I believe it is not “Good Bye“ but rather “So Long” and I will see you again when you join me. I encourage all of you to think of Shorty in this way. We will be with him again.

With Love, Shorty’s friend,

Tim.
