She was born in Chicago, IL on December 19, 1944, to Lawrence & Virginia Glowacki. When Joyce was a teenager, they moved to West Palm Beach, FL for a short time and sadly, her father died when she was 16 years old. Ultimately, she and her mother relocated back to the Chicago area.
After meeting on a “blind-date”, she married Robert (Bob) Schumpp on May 22, 1965. He was the love of her life. They shared 58 years of marriage. She was blessed by his constant devotion and unwavering love throughout the years. They were inseparable.
They raised two daughters together, Lisa and Jennifer. Most of this time was spent in rural Monee, IL, where they built their first house together. Joyce was a stay-at-home mom until the kids were out of grade school. Here they tended to five acres of land where Joyce was an avid gardener and canner. She was also active in St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Peotone, IL. In the late 1980’s Joyce & Bob moved to their dream lake home in Antioch, IL. There they enjoyed great times on their pontoon with lake friends. Retirement led them to Ft. Myers, FL where they were fortunate to reside in a beautiful home on the Intracoastal Waterway for several years.
After Joyce was a stay-at-home mom, she held a variety of positions. One of the most unlikely was being a rural mail carrier in Peotone, IL. Other jobs ranged from Administrative Assistants to her most favorite position working for a clothing boutique on Sanibel Island where her passion for fashion came to life. She took great pride in being the window decorator at this boutique.
Throughout her life, she loved crafts, gardening, birds, and the beach. She could be found every so often doing the “Sanibel Stoop” collecting seashells. She and her husband were blessed to go on several cruises to many tropical destinations.
Joyce was a devout Catholic and loved God. She truly loved her husband; and she was proud of her children.
“J” is survived and will be deeply missed by her husband, Bob; daughter, Lisa (Tim) Semmann; daughter, Jennifer (Mike) Fluharty; and her beloved dog “Max”.
She was preceded in death by her mother & father, and two infant children, Timothy & Laura. The family would like to thank Hope Hospice in Ft. Myers, FL for their attentive care in her last days. A private celebration of life will be arranged at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, https://www.stjude.org/donate
