Born on June 6, 1946, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Kathy was the daughter of the late Paul J. and Doris M. (Ouellette) Beane.
Kathy graduated from Portsmouth High School and later earned her master's degree from the University of New Hampshire. She was a devoted teacher who formed special bonds with her students, and each held a special place in her heart. She was known for her fun and enthusiastic style in the classroom, helping students who struggled academically or with life skills discover their strengths and reach their full potential. She had a lifelong love of cats, but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandson, who were the center of her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Hannah Heitman, and son-in-law, Sam Heitman; her grandchildren, Matthew Heitman (Samantha) and Kylie Heitman; her great-grandson, Timothy; Hannah's father, Robert Barrett; her brother, Norman Beane of Lewiston, Maine; her sister, Susan Newcomer and her husband, Brian, of Newington, New Hampshire; and several nieces and nephews: James Cansler (Melissa) of Virginia, Ian Fritz of New Hampshire, Abbie Beane (Ryan) of California, Gina Hoppis of South Carolina, and Karen Faasse (Gene) of South Carolina.
In addition to her parents, Kathy was predeceased by her sister, Nancy Cansler, and her brother, Paul "Rollie" Beane.
Services will be private. A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be announced at a later date in Newington, New Hampshire.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Prescott Park, a place special to Kathy. Checks can be made payable "City of Portsmouth", list Four Tree or Prescott Park in memo, and mail to:
