He is preceded in death by his father, Max Pendergrast, his mother Carol Pendergrast, and his brother, Eric Pendergrast.
Kurt was a long-time resident of Fort Lauderdale. Upon graduating from Fort Lauderdale High School, Kurt was awarded a full scholarship to play the snare drum in Stetson University’s marching band. He later went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Florida, graduating Summa Cum Laude. During the Vietnam war, he served as an officer in the Army caring for burn victims as a physical therapist. He was an enthusiastic Gator football fan, loved the game of chess, had a twisted sense of humor, and was an extremely talented carpenter. He put his skills to good use by making furniture and occasionally volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. He even designed and built his family’s longtime home in Pompano Beach, Florida. He enjoyed helping his children Matthew and Jennifer with their Science projects, and coaching Nick’s baseball teams. For most of his life, he worked as a licensed electrician, owning a successful business, Crown Electric Inc. Prior to retirement, he spent over ten years in the home health care industry as a physical therapist. During his retirement, he enjoyed visiting and cooking for the homeless shelter and attended Grace Church every Sunday in Cape Coral, Florida. His family will honor him by spreading his ashes on the University of Florida football field.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Kurt’s name to Habitat for Humanity.
