

Margaret Jordan Green died on Saturday, December 17, 2016 in Fort Myers, Florida at the age of 92. She was the daughter of Margaret Vandervoort Walsh and Faison Calvert Jordan and was born in Nanking, China where her father worked for the British American Tobacco Company. After her family’s return to the United States in 1940, she attended Berkley High School and the University of California where she met and later married Richard H. Green. She later attended the University of Illinois and the University of Florida where she received a Ph.D. in Counselor Education. She was then employed for several years at Santa Fe Community College teaching remedial academic skills to vocational students.
Her husband taught at the UF Department of English and died in 1990. She was predeceased by two brothers, Faison, Jr. and James and four children: Francis, Anne, Richard and Mary. Surviving her are her children Lawrence Green of Bardstown, KY, John Green of Philadelphia, PA, Elizabeth Gaines of Fort Myers along with 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Gainesville was her home from 1970 until three months ago when she moved to Fort Myers to be closer to her daughter. While in Gainesville she was a member of Friends of the Library, the Audubon Society and the choir at Holy Faith Catholic Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 30, 2016 in the St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Fort Myers, FL. The burial will take place at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell Florida at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 2, 2017. In lieu of flowers those who desire may make contributions to the St. Francis House in Gainesville, FL (www.stfrancishousegnv.org).
