Born on May 2, 1940, in North Manchester, Indiana, Margie lived in many places across the Midwest, but always called Cincinnati, Ohio, and Fort Myers, Florida “home.”
Margie was loving, funny, and endlessly caring. She had a way of making everyone feel cared for and looked after, always checking in on her family and friends. She had a gift for storytelling, a sharp wit, and a heart that placed family above all else.
A lifelong lover of words, Margie was an avid reader who also authored two novels and worked as a book editor. After attending airline school- a job she adored until meeting the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Matthew, who swept her off her feet. Together they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, cards around the kitchen table with friends, and plenty of cookies, which Margie was always happy to share.
She will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Julia (Todd) Manies and Kim Fitzpatrick; her two granddaughters, Bryn (Laura) Fitzpatrick and Cidney Fitzpatrick; and her three great-grandchildren, Hadley, Milo, and Maddox Floss. Margie is also survived by six siblings, Richard (Phyllis) Ailor, Sue Wilson, Creola (Mike) Hundley, Beulah Brigance, Marie Ailor, and Terri (Ray) Bass; her beloved sister-in-law, Susie (Steve) Kaufman; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bonnie and Milton Ailor; her husband, Robert (Bob) Matthew; her brother, Jerry Ailor; her sister, Vivian Mason; and brothers-in-law, Larry Wilson, Donald Mason, and Al Brigance.
Margie will be remembered for her warmth, her humor, her strong sense of family, and her little quirks- including her fondness for reminding loved ones “you need to…” Her greatest legacy is the love she poured into her family and the time she spent with them, lessons that will live on through the generations she leaves behind.
Funeral services are pending at this time.
