Martha is the second child of Charles and Maria Metros who emigrated from the Greek Island of Mytilene in the early 20th century. They settled down in New York City in the borough of Queens where Martha was born and grew up along with her parents and sibling, Nicholas. Martha attended school in New York and majored in Home Economics focusing on clothing design. She worked in the field of fashion and became a teacher.
Martha met the love of her life, Sebastian A. Bugella and were married in 1954. They built their lives in Newington, Connecticut where they had two children, Marcus A. Bugella and Maria A. Schirmer. In the late 1970s, Mom and Dad operated a Swiss Colony Gourmet Cheese Shop and a Hill Top luncheonette in Manchester, Connecticut. They also managed a second Hill Top luncheonette in Hartford, Connecticut in the 1980s. In the late 1980s they retired to Cape Coral, Florida.
Their children produced 2 grandchildren for Mom and Dad, Rachel M. Bugella and Brianna N. Schirmer. My parents were active members in the Saint George Greek Orthodox Church in New Britain, Connecticut and later belonged to a larger church in Hartford, Connecticut.
Mom and Dad were very active in their new church in Florida, The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of Fort Myers. Mom was a member of the Women’s Philoptochos Society (philanthropic group) as well as being the president of the Hellenic Club. Mom remained active as long as her health enabled her to do so.
An inurnment with service will be scheduled in the near future.
May her soul always be in the protection of our Lord’s hands. I love you Mommy. With eternal love, your faithful and loving daughter, Mia
