Mary Carioto, 73, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on December 25, 2018 after a long battle with cancer. Born on October 22, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Anne Walsh, and sister to the late Robert Jr (Rosemary) Walsh. Born and raised in Loudonville, NY, she graduated from Academy of the Holy Names and received her bachelors degree from Maria College and The University at Albany. After graduating college, she worked as a medical secretary for a number of years. She then left the workforce temporarily to raise her children before returning to her medical secretary role.
She married her childhood sweetheart, Joseph Carioto, whom she met at age 14. They married in January 1969. They grew up on the same street in Loudonville (Campus View Drive), and have been inseparable ever since. They have been married for 49 years. Together, they raised their family in Niskayuna. They spent time traveling and also golfing at the Edison Club with their friends. In 2000, they began the next chapter of their life moving south to Sarasota, and then Ft Myers, Florida.
Mary is survived by her husband Joe, two kids, Mark (Meline) Carioto of Weston CT, and Judy Carioto of Loudonville NY. She had four grandchildren: Arianna, David, Gabriel, and Julia, and one grand dog, Murphy. Mary is also survived by the wife of her late brother, Rosemary Walsh, in addition to many nieces and nephews. Her family meant everything to her, and being with them is what made her happiest. Her favorite time of year ironically was Christmas. She was an avid year round shopper for herself, but would love to spoil her children and grandchildren every Christmas. She enjoyed watching everyone open their presents she picked out so carefully.
The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to both Hope Hospice and to her caregivers, Gertrude, Bernadette, Sandi and Tina. Their love, support and help over the past year allowed her to live at home with her husband.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at St. John XXIII Church in Ft Myers, FL on Saturday, December 28, 2018 at 10am. Although Mary loved flowers, she loved giving even more. In lieu of flowers the family requests any show of support be made in her memory to Hope Hospice @ donate.hopehcs.org or by mail:
