March 31, 1940 – May 28, 2022
Mary E. Lynch, age 82, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday May 28, 2022. Mary was born March 31, 1940 in Queens, New York, daughter of the late Ethel and George Morafchik. She graduated from Newtown High School and worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance for many years.
In 1970, she married Thomas J. Lynch Jr., and stepped into the role of step-mother to three young children and in no time, was simply “Mom”. She was a gourmet cook who loved to watch The Galloping Gourmet, and had a subscription to Food & Wine magazine since its inception. She was an avid reader and loved to share books and passages that spoke to her. But what was most remarkable about Mary was her open spirit and graciousness toward every person she ever met. She was that rare human being who never judged, never complained, and never spoke a bad word about anyone. She loved spending time on the beach, and had an uncanny ability to find the most perfect shells as she strolled along the water. She was loved and adored by her children and grandchildren and the loss to Tom and her family is profound.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her brother Wendell and many brothers and sisters-in-law, close friends and her awesome St. Bernard, “Ulysses”.
She is survived by her husband Tom, daughters Doreen Schmidt of Colorado, Christine D’Agostino (Michael) of New Jersey, and son Thomas J. Lynch III of Colorado. Five grandchildren: Keith D’Agostino, Meghan D’Agostino, Todd Schmidt, Thomas J. Lynch IV, and Erin Lynch, her sister Amy (Bob) Finley, and many nieces and nephews and in-laws.
The family would like to thank the staff of Healthpark Skilled Nursing and Rehab and the staff of Hope Hospice, especially Patrick .
Details for a Requiem Mass will be announced later.
Arrangements are being handled by Hodges-Kiser Funeral Home
