She was born in Boston, Mass. on March 31, 1959 to Thomas M. Sullivan and Barbara A. (Kelly) Sullivan. Raised in Randolph alongside her brothers and sister, she spent her childhood years rocking herself to sleep in bed and singing out her bedroom window.
Maura graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in criminal justice. She enjoyed a 25 year working career, most recently serving as the Director of Security at Caribe Royale Orlando. She was tenaciously passionate about her job and well-loved by coworkers, who became more of a family throughout the years spent working together. Throughout her career, she had the privilege of overseeing security operations for former Vice President Al Gore and performing artists like The Pointer Sisters, Doobie Brothers, and the band Chicago.
In 1995, she agreed to a blind date. Despite polite attempts to decline her date’s offer of walking her to her car, he insisted. It was a good thing he did – her car was no longer where she left it. Luckily, the date was her future husband, who would do anything for her (including paying the tow yard’s release fee). That night marked the beginning of a long and loving 28-year relationship.
She is survived by her husband, John R. Mahoney; daughter, Kelly Mahoney of Brighton, Massachusetts; two brothers, Brian Sullivan of Leominster, Massachusetts and Daniel Sullivan (Julie) of Brunswick, Maine; sister Teresa Colleran (Joseph) of Naples, Florida; sister-in-law Carol Mahoney and brother-in-law John Cheney of Rockland, Massachusetts; and many more nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
