Born on March 21, 1958, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, Maureen was the ninth child of Claire and Edwin O’Neill. She attended Ocean County Community College, earned her real estate license in New Jersey, and later moved to Fort Myers, Florida.
Maureen worked for 43 years as a paralegal at Sheppard Law Firm, where she was valued for her dedication, reliability, and care for others. In 1984, she married Richard “Rick” Phillips. Together they raised their loving son, Richard Joseph “Joey” Phillips.
She embraced her role as a grandmother, doting on her grandsons, Case and Cai, and building her life around those she loved most.
Maureen is survived by her husband, Richard “Rick” Phillips; her son, Richard Joseph “Joey” Phillips; her daughter-in-law, Heidi; her grandsons, Case and Cai; and her siblings Ellen Spiezio (predeceased by husband Vincent), Michael O’Neill (Denise), Claire Cutting (Robert), Kevin O’Neill (predeceased in death by wife Cyndi), and Timothy O’Neill (Colleen), along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and ‘lousy’ lifelong friend of 52 years, Eunice Jacobi (Melody).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Claire and Edwin O’Neill; her siblings: Joan Schroth (John), Maryann Sommers, and Edwin O’Neill; brother in law Vincent (Ellen); and her granddaughter, Charlotte Phillips.
Spunky, outspoken, and larger than life, Maureen faced health challenges with resilience and gratitude. She loved reading, helping others, and spending time with family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday January 24, 2026 at Hodges Funeral Home at Lee Memorial Park with family receiving guests starting at 1:00 pm.
