Mike earned a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree from the University of Maine, and was truly a jack of all trades. His career began with joining the Air National Guard and reporting local news for the Kennebec Journal and the Portland Press Herald. After, Mike acted as the Personnel Director at Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent, and his greatest contribution was the 25 years he devoted to the U.S. Foreign Service as a diplomat with the State Department, where he lived and worked at posts across the globe.
Mike was a master storyteller - the kind of person who could make a routine dinner feel like a chapter from an adventure. His captivating stories about the places and people he met often came with a surprise underlying punchline that made everyone laugh. He had a great sense of humor that could ease tension in a meeting, lift spirits at a family table, or turn a long flight into a shared joke.
Just as with his career, Mike had many passions. He loved tennis and pickleball, was an avid art and glass collector, a cigar aficionado, a lover of good red wine, and anything peanut butter could brighten his day.
Mike is survived by his wife, Linda, his two daughters, Megan and Kirstin, and his two grandchildren, Gavin and Kaitlyn. Their lives were the center of his world - family dinners, holiday rituals, and the everyday moments he treasured.
Friends and family remember Mike for his generosity, his knack for turning an ordinary moment into a memorable story, and a sense of humor that made even difficult days lighter. He will be greatly missed by his family, and the numerous friends and neighbors in Fort Myers area and around the world.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to Arden Courts, whose compassionate care meant so much to Mike and to our family. Please reach to Linda ([email protected]) for details.
