It is with great sadness that family, friends, and all who knew her announce the passing of Millie, a sweet angel who touched the hearts of everyone she met. Millie lived her life with unwavering love and affection for her family and friends. Born in Elberton, Georgia, as one of 12 children, she came from humble beginnings. In the late 1930s and early 1940s, many of her relatives moved to Detroit in search of better employment opportunities.
At the age of 20, in 1941, Millie met the love of her life, Glenn McWilliams, on a blind date. They quickly fell in love and were married for 58 years until Glenn's passing. Together, they raised three sons, and Millie’s dedication to her family was unmatched. They lived in Detroit and later in Madison Heights, Michigan, where Millie was a devoted wife and mother.
Millie preferred home-cooked meals to dining out, and as a true Southern belle, she often served homemade pies, sometimes more than one, after dinner. Her cooking skills were legendary among family and friends. She was a constant presence at her sons’ sporting events, always there to cheer them on with pride and love. Millie was known to the neighborhood kids as "Mrs. Mac," and she would often make Kool-Aid, iced tea, and sandwiches for anyone who stopped by.
She had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel special. Millie loved everyone, and everyone loved her. Until her late 90s, she could be found dancing to rock and roll music with joy. If someone was unwell, she would always say, "Bless your heart." Above all, Millie was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. She was commonly described as sweet, kind, and full of warmth. Millie will forever be remembered for her loving nature and the positive light she brought into the lives of those around her.
