Mirta Buono Cohen, age 74, of North Fort Myers passed away peacefully Sunday, October 31, 2021. She was born in Puerto Rico on February 15, 1947 to Juan and Rosalie Torres. She grew up in New Jersey and spent most of her years in Fort Myers, Florida. She made an amazing circle of lifelong girlfriends who lit up her life. She was the spice of a party and always gave more to others than they did for her. Mirta was a passionate, Latin woman who loved her family very much. She enjoyed dancing, camping, loved her red lipstick, attending Church, cooking and spoiling her children. Mirta made a special home for her family and children as they grew up. As a beloved friend, she always kept in touch with everyone, near or far and never missed a birthday or Christmas card. She loved traveling with her husband, seeing new places and most of all how he made her laugh. They always said they would be there “till the end” for each other, and they were.
Mirta was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers: Joseph Torres and Angel Torres and her longtime partner, Herbert Cohen. She is survived by her children: Johnny Buono and Kimberly Cohen; her godson, Joseph Torres, Jr.; her siblings: Carmen Hernandez, Juan (Ivette) Torres and Carmen (Robert) Riker; and her dearest friends: Barbie Kline, Cindy and John Germano, Diane and Sammy Valenti and Amy Wallis.
Visitation will be held at Hodges Funeral Home at Lee Memorial Park on Friday, November 5th from 1:00 pm until the time of the funeral service at 2:15. Burial will follow in Lee Memorial Park Cemetery.
