
While most recently of Ft Myers, FL, he grew up in the Chicago neighborhood of Rogers Park. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vasiliki Davlantes Domer and Robert Domer, both Chicago public school teachers. He is survived by his sons, Matt and Paul Domer, and his wife, Dr. Nan Rumsey, formerly an OBGYN at Prentice Women’s Hospital.
Dr. Domer was a graduate of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Northwestern
University Pritzker School of Law. Dr. Domer began his career as a medical scientist and served
on the faculty in the Department of Pathology at Northwestern and at the University of Chicago
Pritzker School of Medicine. Dr. Domer published numerous scientific articles, taught graduate
and medical students, and established the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory at the University of
Chicago. He was most proud of his work to discover and clone an oncogene, which causes infant
leukemia. After a career in medicine, Dr. Domer earned his Juris Doctor degree and applied his
scientific knowledge to the field of biomedical patent law. He was a member of the intellectual
property firm of Leydig, Voit, and Mayer.
A visitation will be held at Nelson Funeral Home, 820 W. Talcott Rd, Park Ridge, IL, on Thursday, April 4th between 4 – 8pm. The funeral service will be at St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church, 5649 N. Sheridan Rd Chicago, IL, on Friday, April 5th at 10:30am. A 10am graveside service will be on Tuesday, April 9th at Lee Memorial Park Cemetery, 12777 SR 82, Fort Myers, FL.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the MaryBeth Richmond MD Scholarship, Northwestern University, which funds medical student education.
