
Reynaldo "Rey" Salinas, age 59, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away on June 25, 2026. He was born on July 21, 1966, in Reynosa, Mexico, and lived a life dedicated to his family, his profession, and his passion for teaching and cooking.
Rey was a loving husband, devoted father, talented chef, and respected educator. He earned an Associate's Degree in Culinary Arts from Fort Myers Technical College and built a successful career doing what he loved most—sharing his passion for food. He worked as a Chef at Sanibel Harbor Resort before returning to Fort Myers Technical College, where he spent the last five years as a Culinary Arts professor. As an instructor, Rey inspired countless students through his knowledge, patience, and mentorship, leaving a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to learn from him.
Outside of his profession, Rey was known for his warm personality, generous spirit, and unwavering love for his family. He was a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed following Formula 1 racing, as well as cheering on his favorite Texas basketball teams, the San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets. A lifelong fan of rock and roll music, he found joy in good food, great music, and spending time with those he loved most.
Rey will be remembered as a loving husband and father, a gifted cook, an exceptional teacher, and a mentor who touched many lives. He had a way of making everyone feel welcome, and his kindness, humor, and passion for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Myriam Salinas; his sons, Christopher Salinas and Kenny Salinas; his mother, Maria Galindo; his brothers, Ismael Salinas, Vicente Salinas, and Eduardo Salinas; and his sisters, Lety Salinas and Maribel Salinas.
He was preceded in death by his father, Reynaldo Salinas.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, June 29, 2026, at Hodges Funeral Home at Lee Memorial Park, 12777 FL-82, Fort Myers, Florida 33913. Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service at 12:00 p.m. Burial will immediately follow the service. Pastor Rodriguez will officiate.
Though his time with us was far too short, Rey's legacy will live on through the many lives he touched, the lessons he taught, and the love he shared with family, friends, colleagues, and students.
