He passed at his home with his daughter, Barbara Neumeyer, at the Landings Yacht Golf and Tennis Club community in Fort Myers
He passed peacefully with no illness under hospice care and the care of his family.
He was born in Jamaica Queens, New York City and was lovingly adopted by Louis and Sophie (Smigiel) Neumeyer. He was a popular kid with a talent in art from which he later built his career. He also was an outstanding Jamaica High School swimmer and diver.
He attended the Cartoonists And Illustrators School which today is known as the School of Visual Arts College in NYC https://sva.edu/about/about-sva/history
He joined the US NAVY and served in the Korean War aboard the USS Princeton aircraft carrier where he was an air controlman. Sustaining an injury, he was furloughed to Japan for rehabilitation. There he met a beautiful and intelligent Japanese girl named Takako Takeuchi. They became friends but with no formal plans for their future. He often told the story that when he was discharged and left Japan on his way back to America, he said to himself “I hope I meet a girl like that someday” After roughly 6 months home, he said “Hmm, I already have” and signed on as a working sailor on a freight ship bound for Japan. Once in Japan, he found a job at a Japanese newspaper in Tokyo and courted Takako and her family to convince them that he was good enough for her. They married at the American Embassy and returned to New York. They eventually settled on Long Island, first in Lindenhurst then in Sayville.
He worked for various ad agencies and eventually started his own companies – first a partnership Manning and Neumeyer Advertising and then Robert Lewis Advertising from which he successfully retired from in the 1980’s. He also worked with the Long Island Waters magazine. He enjoyed Bowling as a hobby and was in leagues much of his adult life, winning multiple league trophies and individual awards over the years including amateur Long Island Champion. He enjoyed fishing and boating on Long Island and later in San Diego, CA. He also was Swim Coach for his old high school for several seasons.
He and Takako moved to San Diego in their retirement years where he started a popular USS Princeton Alumni group with a monthly newsletter and annual get togethers for former sailors who had served on USS Princeton commissioned ships. He and Takako eventually moved to the Houston area and where he was a lovingly devoted husband to his wonderful wife who suffered many years with Alzheimer’s. Upon her passing, he moved to Fort Myers where he lived out his last almost 8 years with his daughter.
