

Bob passed away peaceful on Saturday, January 24, 2026. He was born on June 9, 1953 to William & Evelyn Vernay in Paterson, New Jersey. He grew up in Clifton and spent many summers in Highland Lakes and Flanders. He was Clifton High School graduate and after high school, attended Englewood Cliffs College and Seton Hall University and earned a Marketing Degree in Science. He worked along side his father in William J. Vernay Movers and eventually owned his own company Vernay Relocation and Storage.
Bob married his loving wife of 45 years Joanne and and together they built a family in Pompton Lakes, NJ. He was a proud father to two children Bobby and Cheryl (Matt) Pollison. He had five grandchildren, Stella, Elena, Bennett, Bradley and Everett- who brought him immense joy.
Bob was lifelong community servant, he was deeply involved in civic organizations and dedicated much of his life to helping others.
He was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge and the Shriners, served as an officer in the New Jersey Warehouse Association, Member of the Elks and Knights of Columbus and Planning Board member. He served as a Councilman and later Council President in Pompton Lakes, where his impact is still felt today. During his time as councilman, he proudly initiated the town-wide garage sale and led the creation of the 2000 Time Capsule.
In his younger years, he was an amateur boxer, a passion that stayed with him throughout his life. He enjoyed fishing trips, camping, loved spending time at the racetrack and rooting passionately for his New York Giants.
For the past 15 years, Bob was a resident of Lehigh Acres, Florida, where he was a former trustee member of the Eagles.
Bob is survived by his brother Bill; his sisters Diane, Nancy, and Evelyn; his
sister in laws, Gloria, Sue and Janet; many nieces and nephews and friends who will cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Evelyn, and his sister Joanie and brother Danny.
Bob will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his family and community.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
