

Samuel LeGrand Horsley, born October 10, 1935 in Garfield, Kentucky, passed away unexpectedly from natural causes on November 14, 2015 on North Captiva Island, Florida. He attended the University of Kentucky. He was a Marine in his early career and went on to manage a successful branch of the Long & Foster real estate firm in Sterling, Virginia, rising to Vice President before retiring. He was a soccer coach, a gardener, a philosopher, a jokester, a black-belt at Sudoku, a ravenous reader, a passionate traveler and a lover of ice cream. He enjoyed a long retirement with his wife Beverly, splitting time between North Captiva and Digby, Nova Scotia. He was humble. He was kind and good to everyone in his life, and he had the keen ability to always lift the spirit and confidence of those who were hurting or in need. He was an exceptional model of what a good husband, father, grandfather and friend should be. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Beverly Jean Horsley; daughters Rebecca (Wade) Johnston, Laura Horsley (Maria Alvarez) and Jennifer (Russ) Dize; grandchildren Tanner, Haley, and Garrett Johnston and Jason and Riley Dize, and brother Dennie Horsley. He is predeceased by his father Sam Horsley, his mother Ruth Horsley and his sister Jane Horsley.

A service celebrating his life will be held Friday Dec 4, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel at National Memorial Park in Falls Church Va.
