Born July 12th 1930, Tom Flint was a native of Joliet Illinois. After graduating from high school, he attended Duke University from 1948-52. Upon graduation he joined the Navy and was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. He served on the USS Marias during the Korean War, 1952-54. Shortly after returning to Joliet he married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Ann Turley in 1956. For a few years he worked alongside his father, Ted Flint, at the family companies: Flint Ice Cream, and Flint Frozen Foods of Joliet. During this time Tom and Patty created a family of four boys and one girl. After the family companies were sold off in the mid ‘60s, Tom embarked on a long career in banking that took him from Joliet to Galesburg Illinois, then eventually to Southwest Florida.
Tom was an avid golfer, hunter, beekeeper, and bicyclist. Some of his best memories were of family trips skiing in Colorado, and canoe/camping adventures in Minnesota. He also cherished traveling the world with Patty. Wherever the Flint family moved, Tom became an elder or lay leader in their chosen Presbyterian Church.
After losing Patty Flint to cancer in 2001, Tom married Borden Bowen, and has been married to her for 19 years.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Esther Flint, his first wife Patricia Turley Flint, and his sister Anne Flint Sluder.
