There he worked in Security for a bank in Manhattan. In 1985 the couple retired and purchased a home in Lehigh Acres, Florida, where they both lived for the rest of their lives. On January 24, 2014, his wife passed on to be with the Lord.
He was determined to stay in Lehigh where Ruth was laid to rest and where all his friends remained. After living on his own for a few years, he decided it would be in his best interest to live with his friend and caregiver, Evan Toban, so that he could remain in Lehigh Acres, FL.
Vincent David Moses always had wisdom to share with everyone he was around and always spoke of the Boy’s School he worked at, where there were many lessons, he learned and shared with the boys. He was proud of the effect he had on their lives and also often reminisced of his experiences at the Governor’s Office in his youth.
He was respected and held in high esteem by many.
As a member of The Brethren Church in Guyana and then also in New York City he held different positions including that of a teacher and pastor. There he was especially known for his powerful readings of the scriptures and prayers. He was the pastor of the Essequibo Brethren Church.
He was an avid believer in eating things that would make you strong and healthy, so he was very much known for his carrot drink, Barley water (juice) and plantain cereal, which were delicious. David or in some cases “Hezekiah” where Ruth’s favorite names for him when she needed him and he would come immediately and say ever so gently, “Yes, my dear, how may I help you?”
He was a superb cook of Guyanese cuisine. His favorites were Bara, Roast Pork, Pholourie, Curry Chicken, Cookup rice and Pepper pot, which were unparalleled. His pride and joy were his garden on Ground Dove Circle in Lehigh Acres in which he planted many imported fruit trees and plants, many healthy herbs such as the tree of life which only grows in the Caribbean, 2 or 3 types of mangoes, Sugar Apple, Djamoen, Coconut trees and all were bearing beautiful fruits. It was his pleasure to take any visitor into his garden for a tour.
He will be remembered as a caring and loving and gentle giver of himself, his time and his wisdom and will never be forgotten.
