Virginia Lee Haas, age 69, died on the morning of Thursday, August 6, 2020. Virginia is survived by her husband, Gerald Haas, of Ft. Myers, FL; her son, G. Matthew Haas, of Ft. Myers, FL; her daughters Jennifer Haas and Ashley Haas, of Washington, DC; and her brother, John Lee, of Lakewood Ranch, FL. She is preceded in death by her father, Raymond F. Lee II, of Bradenton, FL; her mother, Oleta Lee, of Bradenton, FL; and her brother Raymond F. Lee III, of Bradenton, FL.
Virginia was born on December 27, 1950, in Ocala, FL, to Raymond Lee and Oleta Lee (Edgeworth). She graduated from Manatee Junior College and the University of Florida with a degree in education and from the University of South Florida with a master’s in Special Education. She was a teacher for nearly 50 years, including 10 years of homeschooling her three children until they reached high school. Although they grew up only a few blocks from each other, Virginia met her husband, Gerald Haas, at Manatee Junior College while working on the school’s yearbook. They would have been married 49 years on August 28, 2020. After moving to Fort Myers, FL in 1979, she became a member of McGregor Baptist Church where she actively volunteered over the years.
A Requiem Mass will be held at Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord on Friday, August 21 at 10:30 am followed by lunch. And a “celebration of life” memorial service at McGregor Baptist Church on Saturday, August 22 at 11:00 am followed by lunch.
