
Walter F. Allaire of Sanibel Island passed away on January 19, 2015. He was 91 years old. Mr. Allaire was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 4, 1923, the son of Walter W. and Louise (nee) Goetz Allaire. He is survived by his wife, Gloria and three children, son Walter F. (Rick) of Dallas, Texas, daughter, Holly P. of Dallas, Texas and son Timothy of Stow, Massachusetts. He was predeceased by a son John C of Salt Lake City, Utah. Also, surviving and 3 grandsons, Kyle, Mathew and Mark and 2 granddaughters, Michelle and Alexandra. Mr. Alliare was educated in Chicago Public Schools and following high school attended Louisiana State University on an athletic scholarship. After one year during World War II, he transferred to Tulane University in the Naval Officer V-12 program and graduated in Chemical Engineering before preceding to Columbia University NY, where he earned an Officer Commission in the U.S. Navy. He served 4 years , mostly sea duty with the North Atlantic and Mediterranean Fleets before transfer to the Naval Reserve as a Lieutenant. Following the war, he began his career with a major chemical company in Research and Development and subsequently transferred to the company’s Nuclear Division involved in Nautlius nuclear submarine program. Following training at Oak Ridge Tenn. Nuclear Facility, he joined the program in Idaho Falls, Idaho where, after 2 years the development was completed. Upon completion, he was involved in new chemical plant construction and operations with several chemical companies. In 1962, he joined Allied Chemical Corp. as Operations Manager at Buffalo, N.Y. for 2 years before transferring to the Corporate Headquarters in Morristown, N.J. as Director of Manufacturing for the Plastics Division. In 1973, as a result of the worldwide energy crisis and its impact on the Corporation Operations, he became Corporate Director of Energy Resources with responsibility for development of policies and programs of the efficient management of the company’s energy requirements. In addition, he served as member of several national committees in Washington DC and testified before Congressional hearings on energy matters. He also spoke at various conferences and meetings in Europe and Asia on the energy problem. In 1985, he retired from Allied and he and his wife moved to Sanibel Island, Florida. As an avid golfer, he joined the Dunes Golf and Tennis Club. He served as President of the Men’s group on 2 separate occasions and served as President of the Dunes Home Owner Association. In addition, he and his wife were members of World Home Exchange and swapped houses in Europe, Canada as well as in the U.S. they also resided in the White Cliffs community in Massachusetts in the summers.
