Wilfred Wallace was the born on March 7, 1917 at New York Nursery & Childs Hospital in New York, NY to his loving parents, Adelia Romney and Joseph Wallace. He was the oldest of six wonderful children: Mary Robinson, Carmen Osborne, late Cyril Wallace, late Yvonne Gibson and late Albert Wallace. Early on Wilfred displayed signs of his determination as he walked for miles in order to ensure he received his education from the New York City Public school system. He pursued many different career paths; most notably he became the first black foreman at the US Post Office in NY where he ultimately retired. He later moved Florida to purchase his first home and worked within the Florida school system.
Wilfred was a devoted Christian all his life and was referred to as a prayer warrior. His commitment to serve God led him to begin a daily prayer service at a non-denominational church every weekday at 12 noon. The daily prayer service increased the attendance so much that the Minister, now Bishop currently has three churches. This same church ordained him as a deacon. He later informed his family that he was creating his own church that required him to pray 24/7. Wilfred would be so overjoyed speaking about Jesus that he would often shout, with his powerful voice, “Halleluiah – Whew!” He would also go to the local jails to pray with those incarcerated.
Wilfred provided shelter for so many in his home. He would open his doors to all his family, where his late sons Freddie and Gregory Wallace both lived, as well as his grandchildren Amira and Jojo Wallace, and his niece Shamone Neal. He was so giving that he even provided shelter for homeless people he met and previously incarcerated inmates that had nowhere to live.
On the evening of February 22, 2016, Wilfred Wallace (aka Granddaddy, Uncle and Bubba) departed this life peacefully and in the comfort of his home in Fort Myers, Fl. to an eternal resting place with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Wilfred was being cared for and comforted by Shamone while he received medical care from Hospice Home Care at the time of his passing. Wilfred was 98 years old, just 2 weeks shy of 99. He leaves to cherish his memories: His loving siblings Mary “May” Robinson and Carmen “Dashie” Osborne; his granddaughter Amira Wallace and grandson Jojo Wallace; his great grandchildren Saada Nicole Wallace, Michael Infinite Wallace, Serenity Michelle Wallace, Destiny Lydia Wallace, Roman Gregory Wallace Testman, Paris Juanita Wallace Testman,
Joseph Isaiah Osei Kojo Wallace and Jocelyn Laila Yaa Asantewaa Wallace; his great great grandchildren: Somya London Austin and Sariah Rose Guirero; his wonderful nieces and nephews; especially his very caring nieces Sandie Robinson and Shamone Neal whom he called his daughters and innumerable loving family members.
