

William Lee West, MD, passed away April 25, 2021, at the age of 84. He was born in Los Angeles, California to William D. & Mable (Clark) West. He was a graduate of Point Loma College (San Diego, CA) and Baylor College of Medicine (Houston, TX) and completed residencies in Internal Medicine (White Memorial Hospital, Los Angeles, CA) and Diagnostic Radiology (Loma Linda University Medical Center, Loma Linda, CA). Dr. West was in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1967-1969 before settling with his family in Corona, CA, where he worked at Corona Regional Medical Center from 1975-1992. He did locum tenens in California, Delaware, New Mexico, South Dakota, and Texas from 1992 until his retirement in 2006. He moved to Fort Myers in 1996.
William loved studying the Bible and was an avid reader of many topics. He enjoyed building model cars and remote-controlled boats. He was an active member of the Fort Myers Seventh-day Adventist Church. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Helen L. (Kupcho) West of Fort Myers, FL; two daughters, Laura West Kong and husband, Ivan of Loma Linda, CA; Carolyn R. Seager and husband Jim, of Tucson, AZ; granddaughter Annika N. Kong, of Loma Linda, CA; sister-in-law, JoAnn Nickell and husband, Jon; brother-in-law, Ken Kupcho and wife, Jane; four nieces and nephews, Kristan Huff and husband, Donald; Bryan Nickell and wife, Jennie; Shawn Kupcho and wife, Tina; Cara Reinhart and husband, John; cousins, Ron Lauer, David Lauer, Freida (Lauer) Cochran and husband, Jim, Jennifer (Lauer) Ryan, Steve Lauer and wife, Holly, Don Kupcho, Robert Kupcho, Karen Wild, Jean Hustvedt, Mary Kay Peck, LeRoy Hosteller, Robert Hosteller, Judy Van Dyke, Sherri Vieth, Cleo Johnson; and many great nieces, nephews, and cousins.
William’s Celebration of Life will be held at Fort Myers SDA Church at 10 am on May 2. Internment will be at a later date at Sarasota National Cemetery.
