Jim grew up in Morgantown and, for a time, attended the Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg, WV. He returned to graduate from Morgantown High School. Jim attended West Virginia University and was involved in ROTC. He was part of the occupation forces in Japan prior to serving in combat in Korea. Jim received his degree from the WVU School of Pharmacy. He married Jacqueline Joy Hyre in 1957. He began as a pharmacist with his father at Fredlock’s Pharmacy. Jim took over the pharmacy and added Bagpiper Gifts which he increased to three pharmacies/gift stores in Morgantown and Bruceton Mills. Jim served on the Morgantown City Council, was a member of the National Guard and the Civil Air Patrol. He was honored by the WVU School of Pharmacy as a Hall of Fame member. Jim and Jackie were also involved in the antique car club.
After retirement, Jim learned to scuba dive, sky dive and also went on a seven-day white water rafting trip through the Grand Canyon. In Vero Beach, Jim was active in The First Presbyterian Church, Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute and The Habitat for Humanity. More recently, Jim was recognized and participated in Space Coast Honor Flight in Washington, DC.
Jim is survived by three sons: Jimmy (Jane) of Tucson, AZ; Mike (Sherry) of Lexington, KY; and Andy (John) of Cincinnati, OH. Jim had four grandchildren: Caitlin Haines (Andrew), Kara Morton (David), Bailie Munoz (Daniel) and Michael Fredlock. Jim is also survived by his brother Joe Fredlock (Anne) of Vero Beach, FL and his best friend Alex Salem of Vero Beach, FL.
Jim’s beloved wife Jackie preceded him in death on January 7, 2011.
Donations may be made in Jim’s name to VNA Visiting Nurses Association of Vero Beach, Space Coast Honor Flight or the American Cancer Society in West Virginia.
Memorial services have been scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, September 18, 2021, at First Presbyterian Church, 520 Royal Palm Blvd, Vero Beach, FL 32967.
