Cynthia “Cindy” Lou Cambron Thorne passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family on January 10, 2022, following a more than three year battle with cancer. She was 63 years old. It would be wrong to say that Cindy lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined. When anyone else would have broken, Cindy stayed strong. She was a star patient. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. There was no quit in Cindy. Just because she is no longer here, it doesn’t mean she lost her fight.
Cindy is survived by her husband, Michael Thorne, and children, Kathryn Conley (Timothy), Laura Morrow (Michael), and Connor Thorne. She was a loving “CiCi” to her grandchildren: Liam, Lillian, Charles, Abigail, and Campbell. She also leaves behind her mother, Beverly Cambron, and sisters: Robbin Lynch (Richard), Kelly Cambron Fretwell (Bruce), and Karen Kelly (Scott). She is preceded in death by her father, Dr. Charles Robert Cambron.
Cindy was born on April 3, 1958 in Louisville, Kentucky. As a young child, Cindy moved with her family to Fort Pierce, Florida, where she was raised by loving parents and surrounded by a community of close family and friends. Cindy was a true Florida girl, and enjoyed spending time at the beach and pool, or on the tennis courts with her friends.
After graduating from John Carroll High School, Cindy left her home in Florida to attend Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina. She received a degree in economics. Cindy was an avid Clemson Tigers fan, and cheered on her team through rough seasons and National Championships.
In 1993, Cindy graduated from St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami Gardens, Florida. There, she found a love and passion for the law, and created the beginnings of a long legal career. After graduation and passing the Florida Bar, Cindy worked at the law firm of Stewart & Evans, PA in Vero Beach, Florida. She worked in general practice, but found a niche in health care law. For a period of time, she represented the former Indian River Memorial Hospital. In 1999, Cindy received her Florida Bar Board Certification in Health Care Law, an accomplishment enjoyed by few attorneys in the State of Florida. In 2000, Cindy began working as general counsel at Shands/UF Health in Gainesville, Florida. In 2010, Cindy became Vice President and Deputy General Counsel for Greenville Health Systems, now Prisma Health.
Cindy’s greatest accomplishment was her three children, who she loved fiercely and without fail. She proudly wore the title of “Nole Mom,” as all three children are graduates of Florida State University. She was a loving CiCi to her grandchildren, who all loved being at CiCi and Pop’s house, where they were regularly spoiled with toys and too much sugar. Throughout her life, Cindy impacted the communities where she lived through her friendships and work. She will be remembered for her exceptional legal work, and particular impact at Prisma Health.
