David was born in Freisland, Holland. He was a resident of Vero Beach for the past 28 years, coming from Paramus, New Jersey.
He served in the Army during World War II and received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
Prior to retirement David was the owner and operator of Dave DeVries Excavating and Son in Paramus New Jersey for over 40 years. He was a volunteer firefighter in Glen Rock and Paramus New Jersey for a total of 30 years. He also served on the Citizens Observation Patrol in Fort Pierce, FL, for 10 years. David enjoyed auto racing, trucking and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Doris DeVries of Vero Beach, FL, son David DeVries, Jr. of Trumbull, CT, daughters Joyce Hammett of Cave Creek, AZ, Carol Davis of Sturgeon Bay, WI, step son, Glenn Miller of Midland Park, NJ, brother Pier DeVries of San Bernardino, CA, 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Radie DeVries from New Jersey.
Services will be held at 1:00pm Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Faith Baptist Church in Vero Beach, FL. There will a Memorial Service held in New Jersey in late Spring.
Arrangements are under the care of Aycock Funeral Home, Fort Pierce, FL.
