

Eva Jane Smith, age 98 was born in Moyock, North Carolina on October 21, 1918, the daughter of the late Mary Griffin Bowser Heath and Ira Wheeler Heath. She lived in Londonderry, Ohio for 5 years then moved with her parents to Congers, New York. She graduated from Congers High School in 1935 and the New Paltz State Teacher’s College in 1938. After she returned to Congers, New York she taught third grade at the Congers Grammar school for several years. At New Paltz, ‘Jane’, as her family and close friends would call her, belonged to the Clio sorority.
On November 25, 1941, Jane married Edward F. Smith at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Haverstraw, New York. She and her late husband owned and operated the Mt. Ivy Homes Trailer Park, Inc. in Mt. Ivy, New York until retiring to Florida in 1981.
She was past Matron of the Stony Point Chapter #540, Order of the Eastern Star and served as Treasurer for years of the Kearsing-Edwards Post #1600, Ladies of the American Legion in Pomona, New York. She also was past Treasurer of the Indian Pines Ladies Golf Association and a member of the Indian Pines Garden Club and the Golden Girls.
Jane is survived by daughters, Carol A. Fabrey and husband Robert H. Fabrey II of Pawley’s Island, S.C. and Debra M. D’Acquisto and husband Leonardo D’Acquisto of Ellensburg, WA., six grandchildren and three great granddaughters and three great grandsons. She was predeceased by her husband Edward F. Smith in 1996 and daughter Jane Frances Wilson in 2005. She was also predeceased by five brothers; Robert L. Heath, Gene W. Heath, Richard D. Heath, John S. Heath and Thomas C. Heath.
Jane died peacefully on December 27, 2016 with family members at her side. We are grateful to the loving nurses and aides at the The Brennity in Vero Beach for her care. A funeral service will be held at Aycock Funeral Homes and Hillcrest Memorial Gardens on US Highway 1 in Ft. Pierce, FL on Monday, January 2, 2017 at 11am. Memorial contributions to can be sent to a charity of your choice.
