

Born in Brooklyn, NY he has been a resident Fort Pierce, FL for the past 27 years, formerly of Thomasville, NC.
Prior to retirement, he worked as a social worker for New Horizons for 10 years, in Fort Pierce, FL. Gil was a member of First Christian Church in Fort Pierce, FL. He was involved in the early years at the Cleveland Free Clinic in Cleveland, OH.
While in Cleveland, Gilbert worked as an assistant pastor, bookkeeper, social worker for a number of public and private non-profit institutions, as an administrator at Hough Area Development Corp. and as an instructor in the Sociology Department at John Carroll University. He continued his post graduate studies at Case Western Reserve University’s School of Applied Social Sciences receiving a Masters degree in Community Organization. In 1968 he was awarded the Irene Sogg Gross Award while at CWRU.
Gil enjoyed sailing, boatbuilding, motorcycling, hiking, and his dog Frage. He was fairly active with sporting activities at various time including tennis, softball, skiing and general roughhousing with his boys when younger. He was a long time member of the Cleveland Amateur Boatbuilding Society.
Survivors include, wife of 25 years, Lea Marsh, of fort Pierce, FL, sons, James Marsh, of Gaithersburg, MD and John Marsh, of Cleveland Heights, OH , 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, brother, Charles Ward, of Thomasville, NC and sister, Rita Ward Neeham, of Raleigh, NC.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 2, 2010 at Aycock Funeral Home, Fort Pierce, FL at 12:00pm, with Rev. Angel Roman officiating.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family, envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home.
