

Joan graduated from La Reine High School in Maryland in 1964 and went on to attend the University of Maryland, where she graduated in 1968. It was there that she met the love of her life, Bernie Mildenberger. They shared a devoted marriage of 50 years until his passing.
Joan began her career as a French teacher, sharing her love of language with her students. She later dedicated her life to raising her three children, a role she embraced with deep love and commitment.
She is survived by her three children: Christy Duey and her husband Dwight, Lynn Barnhart and her husband Brent, and Keith Mildenberger. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Kyle Duey, Anna Barnhart, and Collin Barnhart, and played a significant and cherished role in each of their lives. Joan is also survived by her sisters, Cecil Heisey and Lorraine North. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernie Mildenberger, and her sister, Eloise Desmarais.
In 2002, Joan and Bernie retired to Fort Pierce, Florida, where they enjoyed many happy years together at their beach home, surrounded by family and the peaceful beauty of the ocean. Most recently, she resided at Discovery Commons in Hobe Sound, Florida.
Joan was known for her kind heart and happy disposition. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and found her greatest joy in caring for her family. She treasured the time spent by the beach with her loved ones and created lasting memories that will be carried on by all who knew her.
Her family takes comfort in knowing she is finally at peace and reunited with Bernie once again.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A Religious Ceremony will be held at St Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 930 SW Tunis Ave, Port St. Lucie, FL 34953, US, on April 28, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
A Committal Service will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 6026 North Us Highway 1, Fort Pierce, FL 34946, US, on April 28, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 3:30 pm.
