Michael E. Cohen, esteemed President and Founder of Aviator College of Aeronautical Science &
Technology in Fort Pierce, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025, surrounded by loved
ones.
He was 78 years old. Born on April 6, 1947, in Clayton, Georgia, Michael was a visionary in aviation education who dedicated his life to training the next generation of aviators. With a deep passion for flight and an unwavering commitment to safety and excellence, he founded Aviator College with a mission to
provide world-class pilot training rooted in discipline and innovation. Under his leadership, the
college flourished into one of the most respected aviation schools, impacting thousands of students
from around the world. Michael’s career in aviation began in Addison, Texas and has
spanned more than four decades, beginning as a flight instructor before moving into academic
leadership. In his ongoing commitment to advancing aviation education, Michael expanded the
institution’s offerings by establishing an Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT) program at the Kissimmee
Gateway Airport campus.
Michael was known for his high standards, demanding excellence from everyone around him. Yet beneath that firm exterior was a deeply generous heart. Over the years, he quietly supported many students and staff, whether it was through scholarships, second chances or personal mentorship. Whenever he heard of someone facing hardship, he was always willing to lend a helping hand.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Cohen; his son, Ari Cohen, and
daughter-in-law, Helen Cohen; his grandchild, Alexander Cohen, his stepson, Bryan Wilmot, and
daughter-in-law, Karen Wilmot; his step-grandchild, Kaylie Wilmot; and his great-step grandchild,
Zachary Wilmot. Fly high, Michael. Your leadership and love for aviation will never be forgotten.
