Myrtle Jones Martin

Born in Elizabethton, Tennessee, Nelle grew up in Fort Pierce, Florida. She was a graduate of the Dan McCarty High School Class of 1963 and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in English from Florida State University.

In 1968, Nelle married her high school sweetheart, Bruce Martin. They had one daughter, Heather.

Nelle found her true calling as a teacher who loved books, literature, and reading. She began her career at Dan McCarty Middle School, where she taught English for 13 years. She later relocated to West Palm Beach, serving for 32 years as the Media Specialist at

Cardinal Newman High School. There are many co-workers and former students who fondly remember her and have stayed in contact over the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Paul Jones and Kathleen Y. Jones.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce Martin; her daughter, Heather Martin Cory, and son-in-law, Ralph; her grandchildren, Kathleen, Michael, and Paul; her brother, John Paul Jones Jr. (Jan); her sister, Martha J. Miller (Terry); and her five nephews.

Visitation will be held at Aycock Funeral Home, 6026 N US Highway 1, Fort Pierce, FL 34946, US, on June 12, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by a Funeral Service 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm.

A Committal Service will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, US-1, Fort Pierce, FL 34946, US, on June 12, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm.
