

Norman Albertson, 85, of Vero Beach, Florida passed away October 16, 2016 at home. Born in Long Island, New York to Alfred and Aagot Albertson, Norman was a first generation American of Norwegian heritage.
He attended The Stoney Brook School, a college preparatory school in Stoney Brook, NY. Norman then received a BS degree in Marine Engineering from the Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY and entered the U.S. Navy where he served as a career officer until he retired due to disability (Vietnam) in 1968. During that time, he commanded two ocean minesweeping ships, and an experimental Patrol Ship (EPCER) with combat support activities in Dong Ha/ Cua Viet, RVN. He also served as an Admiral’s Aide in the Panama Canal Zone during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
A Lutheran by upbringing, Norman became Presbyterian and raised his family primarily in Williamsburg, VA.
Norman was preceded in death by his twin sister, Greta Albertson Gunning.
Survivors include his daughters, Robin A. Lester, of Tampa , Florida and Evelyn Albertson Bozziti (Tony), of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren, Mary Ellen Frantz Bozzuti and Emory Grace Bozzuti; and older sister, Alice Albertson Gates, of Naples, Florida.
After military retirement, Norman managed the Information Center, Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, in Williamsburg, VA. He also was a marine engineer at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company in Newport News, VA. He fully retired in 1984 and moved to Vero Beach.
He loved the sea, building his life and career around it. He was an avid sailor and enjoyed cruising, circumventing the globe several times. He loved his family , his many friends, his fallen comrades and most significantly, his country, the liberty of which he was proud to ensure.
The family wishes to express profound gratitude to the professionals at The Brennity of Vero Beach where he lived until his death. Special thanks also go to the compassionate care of VNA Hospice.
Memorial Contributions in Norman’s honor may be made to a charity of ones choice.
Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery.
