Robert “Bob” was born to William Donald and Mildred Wemple (Jones) on March 30, 1926, in Elmira, NY. After graduating from Elmira Southside High School, Robert enlisted in the US Army and served in WWII in the Central European Battle as a lineman in the Parachute Infantry 504th, 508th and 82nd Airborne. After military service, Robert graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He worked on many products still in use today, such as mass storage/photo-storage and defense systems for companies like Sanders Assoc., Honeywell Corp., Foto-Mem, and Raytheon Assoc. Robert was affectionately known as the rocket scientist.
Bob and his first wife Delores F. Wemple (Segur) lived in Framingham, MA where he raised his family before moving to Ft. Pierce and then Vero Beach after retirement. He was also an avid golfer, softball and pickleball player.
Robert is survived by his second wife Ruth M. Wemple (Drotar), children, Donald J. Wemple and R. Susan Wemple Case, step-children, Lauren Perkins, Mark Leonardo, Sharon Frazho, a sister, Donna J. Perry, 4 grand-children and 7 great-grand-children. Robert was predeceased by his first wife, Dolores F. Wemple (Segur), son, Andrew P. Wemple and brother, Richard E. Wemple.
Robert was a religious man and an active member of the Catholic Church. He was the Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus in Framingham, MA, and a Eucharistic Minister for St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach, Florida. He was a charitable man within this religious organization.
A memorial service will be held at St. John of the Cross, Corner of 74th Ave & 26th St., Vero Beach, FL 32968 on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 10 AM.
