Ruth Ann Fleckenstein (80), a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend and mentor, passed peacefully to her eternal life with her family by her side, on
Sunday June 10, 2018 at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, FL.
Ruth Ann was born in Pittsburgh, PA in 1938 to Sam and Lucy Ruggiero.
She attended St. Bernard’s School, St. Francis Academy and Carnegie Mellon University. Ruth Ann married Robert E. Fleckenstein (her husband of 60 years) in 1958 and together they nurtured a loving and devoted family. She and her family moved to Vero Beach in 1970.
Having survived breast cancer twice in her lifetime (in 1984 & again in 2012), she was a dedicated and motivated member of the American Cancer Society (ACS). Ruth Ann was awarded the Therese Lassiter Award in 2010. The Lassiter Award is the highest award given nationally to a Reach-to-Recovery volunteer. She also is a life-long honorary member of the Florida ACS.
Ruth Ann was a devoted member of the Catholic Church and a “prayer-warrior” for our world. She was strong in her faith to God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit and to the Blessed Mother.
Ruth Ann was preceded in death by her loving parents Sam and Lucy Ruggiero,
brother Joseph Ruggiero, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
She is survived by her husband Robert E. Fleckenstein, Sr.,

Andrea Forsythe, Vero Beach (married to Robert Forsythe),
Robert E. Fleckenstein, Jr., Tucson AZ (married to Debra), and
Eric Fleckenstein, Vero Beach
Also survived by her grandchildren;
Adrienne Forsythe Acosta, San Antonio TX (married to Marcos Acosta),
Daniel E. Forsythe, Vero Beach, and
Emily Ann Fleckenstein, Tucson AZ
A Mass of Christian burial will be on Saturday June 16, 2018, 1:00pm at
St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach, FL. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Ruth Ann’s honor to the American Cancer Society and the VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach.
