Shelby Slone

Shelby Jean Slone, 85, went home to be with the Lord on August 27,2026. She was born on March 14, 1941, in Fleming-Neon, Kentucky to the late Delois Burke Betterton and McKinley “Dooger” Fleming.

Shelby is survived by her two daughters, Kathy Slone & Wendy Slone Lackey; her two granddaughters, Kristyna Drawdy & husband Trevor, Margaret Delois (Maggie) Lackey & boyfriend Waylon; her two great-grandchildren, Weston and Winley Drawdy; and her two nieces, Donna Sapp (Howie) & Leeanna Lowe & their families.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Winford Slone, with whom she shared 59 years of marriage; her sister, Anna Jean Bashaw; and her son-in-law, Phillip Lackey.

Shelby was a woman of strong faith who was member of Stuart Christian Church, Port St. Lucie Christian Church and attended Southside Christian Church later in life. Through the years she taught many children in Sunday School. Her faith was an important part of who she was, and she found comfort and joy in her relationship with the Lord.

She came to Florida from Kentucky at an early age & worked in her mom’s grocery store in White City, Canady’s Drug store & Sherrill’s of Florida. She was a homemaker for many years then worked in the bakery

at Publix.

She loved the outdoors and enjoyed many simple pleasures in life, including painting, gardening, and baking—especially her daughter’s favorite red velvet recipe. She could always be found enjoying a hot cup of coffee with cream or a good Diet Coke. She loved a good shopping spree at Bealls and cherished the laughter and memories made during family card games.

Most of all, Shelby loved her family. She leaves behind a lifetime of memories, traditions, laughter, faith, and love that will continue to live on through her daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

She will be dearly missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
