

Alma Vera Williams was born in Georgetown County on March 28, 1925 and passed away on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2018 at the age of 92. She was the daughter of G. Walker Williams and Rena Elliott Williams. Mrs. Stevens lived in Florence, SC for 20 years and owned and operated a chain of dance and modeling studios known as the Vera Marchette School of Dance. She was married to the late Louis D. Marchette and then married to the late Chester B. Stevens. She and Chester lived in Savannah, GA before they retired to Garden City. He passed away in 1989. After several additional years at the beach and then at Plantation Estates in Matthews, NC, she went to live in Indian River Estates in Vero Beach, FL
Mrs. Stevens was active in beauty pageants as a coach, director and judge. She was a member of many church choral groups, music and art clubs, gourmet dinner groups, and The Florence Town Club.
Mrs. Stevens is survived by two daughters Dayle Marchette (Jim) Timmons of Redington Shores, FL and Maree Marchette (John) Dawkins of Trinity, FL; four grandchildren Wes (Randi) Timmons of Rome, GA, Courtney Timmons (Jordan) Bogard of Trinity, FL, Kelly Dawkins (Kris) Baker of Spring Hill, FL and Amanda Dawkins (Jordan) Rump of Land O’ Lakes, FL. She is survived by ten grandchildren: Kallyn, Irelyn, Cross, Bayrden and Oaklen Timmons, Kamryn and Kinsey Baker, Colton and Anabell Bogard and Connor Rump. Her eleventh grandchild (another Rump grandson) is expected in July. Mrs. Stevens is also survived by two step-daughters, Susan Stevens Morgan of Asheville, NC and Beth Stevens Turner of Florence and their families.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at Indian River Estates. Mrs. Stevens’ ashes will be buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery by her immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children’s Tumor Foundation (ending Neurofibromatosis through research) at www.ctf.org.
