Dorothy McLeod

December 17, 1928 – June 16, 2016

The family of Dorothy McLeod are profoundly saddened to announce her passing at the Balcarres Integrated Care Centre on June 16, 2016 in the loving presence of her family at the age of 87 years.

Mom was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Gilbert McLeod, parents Basil and Melanie Genaille, brothers Walter and Donald, sisters: Isabelle Gambler, Annie Leclaire, Rosalie Turner, Leona Desnomie, Beulah Pronteau and her favourite sister/aunt Rose Ducharme.

She was also predeceased by two sons in infancy David and Raymond, daughter Eydie Gladue and granddaughter Deneil McLeod.

She is survived by her brother Wilfred (Agnes) Genaille, sister-in-law Florence Desnomie, children: Bernice McLeod (Leonard Bear), Alfred (Yvonne), Terry (Tina), Joe (Juls), Donald, Noreen (Richard) Ironquil and Martine (Howard) Desnomie. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and a special aunt Eleanor Fenner and her beloved dog Rocky Moses.

The funeral service will be held in the Peepeekisis School Gymnasium with wake on Monday, June 20, 2016 starting at 4:00 p.m., funeral on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with son Alfred McLeod officiating.

Burial will be in the McLeod family cemetery.

We the family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Balcarres Integrated Care Centre for the care they provided to mom for the past two years. Mom leaves a legacy of love for Country and Western Music. She taught herself to play guitar at a young age and grew up listening to the music of the Carter Family, Kitty Wells and many others. She taught many of her grandchildren and great grandchildren to play guitar and sing. She also leaves a legacy of love of the Lord. She read the good book nightly before bed. The family respectfully declines flowers. Mom’s attitude was “Don’t bring me flowers when I’m gone, Give them to me when while I’m still here”.
