My family and I were saddened to learn of Alans death. Our thoughts and condolences go out to you all. I will always remember him on the bench with the boys and myself coaching hockey in Joesphburg. I enjoyed coaching with him, and the friendship that we had.

I had the privilege of working with Al at Northlands. I can still see him at my doorway, loudly asking, "What are you doing?". I would explain some accounting thing I was doing and bore him into a coma. But Al was always a fountain of information about the industry for me, and always patient with my many dumb questions. He became one of my favourite people at the track.
Sharon, Emma, and Ryan, you are in my prayers. I hope the good memories shared here will help bring a bit of a smile to you and reinforce to you what a great person Al was, not just to you, but to all he met.

Our sincere sympathies to Sharon, Ryan and Emma on the loss of your Dad and Husband. Alan was a kind, good true person and a friend to many. One of the first memories I have of Alan was at Stampede Park and Pampas Host. Alan was such a good horseman, and will always be remembered by all.

I'm so very sorry to hear of your loss! The world lost a very kind man. I remember when I first started working at Northlands I had so many questions about racing, Alan was so very kind in answering all of them! He will be missed!

Sharon, Emma, Ryan, and family I am thinking you and hoping that you are soon able to dry the tears and smile when thinking of Alan. He was a memorable friend and co-worker to many of us; we canโ€™t imagine how vital he was in your lives, individually and as a family. At work Alan always had a smile. He was even able to laughed when things werenโ€™t going well. The racetrack was a small world and when something not good went down, heโ€™d hear about it. Alan would then appear on the 4th Floor loudly asking, as he walked into the office, โ€œSo how is everybody?โ€ I literally remember being downcast and upon hearing his pronouncement, smiling to myself. I will always miss my friend so much so that Iโ€™ve cried. But even as the tears flowed, I began to smile, just like he made me do so many times before. I will never forget my good friend Alan Bott and everything he taught me.
